Paws for thought! Canine Concern visit provides insight for Haywards Heath College students
Tony, Chris, and Teddy the dog recently paid a visit to Haywards Heath College.
They were representing Canine Concern, a charity dedicated to providing care dog services across England and Wales for those in need and gave an insightful speech covering the charity’s work with children and young people at hospitals up and down the country.
In particular, Tony spoke about Teddy’s role in supporting individuals, giving real-life examples of the impact that therapy dogs can have on patients.
The visit was organised to help health and social care second year students, who are completing a unit on supporting people with mental health conditions, gain a wider understanding of how animals such as therapy dogs can help the mental health of their owners.
Students were also able to ask questions to the team, which will further support their upcoming assignment writing.
Paul Riley, Principal of Haywards Heath College, said:
“We were extremely excited to welcome Tony, Chris, and Teddy into the college. They showed our students the massive difference therapy dogs can make to those in need.
“Charities like Canine Concern help the most vulnerable in society to experience comfort, companionship, and support when they need it most. Their work makes a real difference to those in need.”
